Contemplating heading to the mountains and wondering what you could get into? There’s lots of great activities in the mountains and according to exactly how much time you might have depends on how adventurous you may be.
1. Horse Back Riding – There is nothing nicer than riding high on the mountain on top of a horse. Horse back is an experience that everyone should have. Your tail might be sore the next day but you will sure have a life of memories on a horse ride. There is no better way to connect to early American culture than riding a horse through the woods!
2.Hiking – Finding a good walking trail is easy in most parks and can lead to finding magical places. Hiking is fun to do with pals but not advised to do alone. Always be well prepared before for the trail and drink plenty of drinking water before you leave and bring plenty along with you! Also be sure to bring enough food for a few good meals, not to mention bringing a good sharp knife, a lighter or matches, backpack, flashlight, map of trail, compass, light raincoat or plastic bags. If it rains you can use either one to keep your gear dry. You never know when bad weather can strike or you make a wrong turn. I always carry my cell phone with me also just in case!
3. Camping – If you want to really get near to nature and brave the weather, camping out is a wonderful way! You’ll find nothing like waking up beside a stream smelling the fresh mountain air. Cooking fish right out of river and taking pleasure in a fire is the perfect way to enjoy a vacation. Always be aware of wild critters like bear, wolfs, snakes, spiders and
4. Swimming – Getting in a cool river stream to cool off is a must if you are in the mountains. Keep in mind that some currents may be stronger than you would imagine so be mindful of water conditions. Many mountain streams are perfect to play in during the summer months when rainfall is lower. Many mountain rivers can rage during winter and spring months.
5.Snow Skiing – Snow skiing in the United States is a fun winter activity and can be enjoyed by anyone. There are many great locations to snow ski throughout the US. The typical ski season lasts around 6 months in most areas and really depends on elevation and location.
